Scale of Humanity
‘The Scale of Humanity’ To date this work has taken me longer than any other. The research on the countries with the most displaced people, the background of the American quilt pattern I laid out as I would have if I were sewing, the projection of the kuffiya pattern traced and embedded into the background, the drawing of each country’s national flower and a landmark, the inking, the penciling, and the painting. Thank you to those who participated and shared their stories of displacement with me. You’re all an inspiration. I’d also like to recognize a few who propped me up when I wanted to fall. For his mentoring and gracious spirit @egkwatercolorist It was his instruction on emulating metal work that made the scale come to life. To the creative community @imakespace for their loving support of artists and providing physical, spiritual, and emotional space for us. To my husband for understanding I need this. And lastly, @samiyusuf Brother, this album ‘When Paths Meet’ was my jam and carried me, by Allah’s grace, to the end. The live concert in Amsterdam a must watch and listen! And above all Alhumdolehlah.
